STRAIN TYPES

There are 4 types of strain.

• Tensile strain or Longitudinal strain :

          The ratio of increase in length to the original length.

• Compressive strain or Lateral strain :

          The ratio of decrees in length to original length.

• Volumetric strain :

          The ratio of change in volume to original volume.

• Shear strain :

          The strain produced by shear stress is called shear strain.
